Aquamist HFS-1
hfs-1wThe HFS-1 is geared towards light-pressure turbo applications and low-boost stock vehicles. Vehicles with smaller turbo’s typically have a higher peak boost pressure in the midrange with boost tapering off at high RPM’s. The fixed injection rate of the HFS-1 suits this application perfectly, and with the best failsafe system in the industry, is a great choice .

806-009-2d-kitThe 2d system’s injection mapping is similar to the HFS-5 and HFS-6 systems. The system uses IDC tracking and mirrors this signal with a HSV to control injection. An adjustable pressure switch determines the system’s injection start point.Introduction: For those who want a 3-D water injection MAP but do not want to spend the time-consuming task of mapping, this system is perfect for you.

The heart of the system is a controller that reads the PWM signal from the engine’s fuel injector (including Peak and Hold type) and converts it to drive the High Speed Valve to deliver water; it draws less than 10ma from the pulsed line. This will enable the water injection to follow a fixed water/fuel ratio.
A 3-30psi Adjustable Pressure Switch (normally closed) sets the cut-in point relative to the manifold pressure. It just cannot be simpler for the user. The system provides a pre-pressurized water line up to 8 bars and the flow rate is metered by our High Speed Valve (HSV). This inline valve is made of high grade stainless steel. As usual, except for the water tank, the system is supplied with everything needed to be fitted with ease.

amp The Fuel Injection Amplifier v2 (FiA2) … Apart from mirroring the fuel injection pulses, it also monitors the fuel’s duty cycle and converts it to 0-5 Volt for the purposes of data logging, or if you just want to know if your stock injectors have maxed out. Two colored LEDs are mounted on the top side of the box. The green LED indicates successful detection of fuel injection pulses and the red LED lights up when water is being injected (preset manifold pressure is reached).

Concealed inside this tiny exterior, it holds a very important diagnostic circuitry – it will detect a BLOCKED water jet !!! It reads the pulsed signal from the center pin of the Aquamist pump and compares it to the water valve pulses, flags an error signal to yet another 1.5A output drive, to trigger a relay or a boost limiting solenoid valve to bring the boost pressure to a safe level should a blocked jet be detected.

The inline valve is made of high grade stainless steel and capable of achieving a cycling rate of over 250Hz.
DESCRIPTION OF SYSTEM 2c
This newly developed system is designed solely for users equipped with their own ECU so one can program their own water injection map. This system was used by two top Works WRC teams in the 1999 World Rally Championship. The system provides a pre-pressurized water line up to 8 bars and the flow rate is metered by our latest High speed Valve (HSV). The inline valve is made of high grade stainless steel and capable of achieving a cycling rate of over 250Hz.
INTERFACING and DRIVE SIGNAL
Due to the huge number of custom Electronic Management Systems available on the market, we have selected a set of parts that will work effectively on most systems. In reference to the schematic diagram on the bottom of this page, the only parts that require interfacing is the HSV (High Speed Valve). Refinements such as flow rate and block jet detection can easily be obtained with a minimum of signal conditioning parts, to achieve a fully integrated water injection system with diagnostic capablities.
HSV (HIGH SPEED VALVE)
hsvIn almost all cases, the compatibility of the drive signal is of the utmost importance for good flow control. The HSV has a coil resistance of 13 ohm, and is suitable to be driven by the standard fuel injector signals, including the “pulse and hold” driver. As the designed operating cycling speed of the valve is over double of the standard fuel injectors (250Hz+), it is not necessary to use low impedance windings. The valve is terminated with water proof sealed connectors (IP65).

 

MANIFOLD (WITH 2-10 BAR ADJUSTABLE PRESSURE SWITCH)
The manifold comes with an adjustable pressure switch (2-10 bars). Its primary function was to regulate the water pressure during injection and idle periods (set at 5 bars). As the pulsed signal from the pressure switch is directly proportional to the flow of water, it can either be recorded by an on-board data acquistion system for diagnostic purposes or read by the control ECU to monitor blockage or water jet and other faults that may arise. 806-005-2s-kitThe 2s is a fully-mappable water-injection system, is pre-pressurized , equipped with diagnostic circuitry, able to detect blocked water-jet and abnormal operation problems.
DESCRIPTION
This is the ultimate water injection system: its function is directly comparable to a standard car’s fuel injection system, except it controls water-flow. In addition, it has diagnostic circuitry designed to detect blocked water-jets and cut pipes. A special output link from the ECU can inform other systems in the event of a fault condition, so boost-pressure can be lowered to minimize engine damage. A pre-pressurized system enables instant response on demand.
WATER PUMP
Specially designed and manufactured by ERL for the sole purpose of pumping water, its delivery rate is small but generated at very high pressure: a minimum differential pressure of 3 bar is necessary for the ERL atomising jet. There are no mechanical links between the piston and the drive motor: the movement of the special magnetic stainless piston is induced by a powerful magnetic field generated by the on-board electronic controller. Flow and pressure characteristics are controlled by varying the frequency and the duration of the electrical pulse fed to the solenoid.
MF2
MF2 is the brain of the system, ultimately responsible for the vital functions of metering the water delivery rate. The MF2 uses incoming RPM and pressure signals from the sensors in the engine bay and compares them with a pre-programmed map set by the user. After several signal conditioning stages it finally arrives at the pulse-width-modulator stage, and the output signal is then converted into digital pulses before being sent to the electro-magnetic water valve.
MANIFOLD BLOCK
The electro-magnetic water valve and a water pressure switch sit on the top of the anodised aluminum block. The valve controls the flow rate and the pressure switch (normally set to 5 bars) limits the water pressure in the event of the pump’s malfunctioning (the pump is capable of reaching a pressure of 12 bars!). There are two additional inlet ports: one for priming the water pump on start-up, the other for a remote water-pressure gauge.
ADJUSTABLE PRESSURE SWITCH
This switch determines the point where the system starts to inject. It is normally fitted to the vacuum side of the inlet manifold (2D mode). For applications where load signal (throttle angle sensor) or manifold absolute pressure sensor (MAP sensor) are available, the MF2 can read these signals and perfom 3-D mapping functions.
STAINLESS IN-LINE WATER FILTER
Apart from perfoming the normal function, this filter can be back-flushed and re-used again and again. In hard water areas, clean the filter in a small glass of diluted household lime-remover occasionally.
WATER JET
The jet is made of nickel-plated brass with two spiral grooves cut into the center insert. Water travelling through these grooves picks up a swirling motion before leaving the small hole on the tip, causing an atomising effect, turning the water into a fine mist: of course a pressure of at least 3 bar is required. Jet sizes from 0.5mm to 1.0mm are available in 0.1mm increments.
FUSED LOOM
(Blue)
A high quality splash-proof plug, with seals, hosts eleven UL and CSA approved wires for connections to the intended equipment/sensors. All mating pins of the socket/plug are gold-plated, all capable of carrying 5 amps of electrical current. An additional pair of wires supplies a stablised output voltage of 5 volts for driving a MAP (manifold absolute pressure) sensor. FASTERNERS
All fasteners are made with high quality 316(A4) grade stainless steel: lower grade stainless steel does suffer from corrosion and pitting under the harsh environments of the engine bay Instruction manual A 20-page comprehensively-written instruction manual discusses every aspect of the MF2 in great detail, including over 20 schematic diagrams and illustrations.

The 3-wire loom is equipped with a 10A inline fuse. Wire size is very important as the pump draws large currents at start-up of every stroke (45 times/sec.): make sure a 30A wire is used if extension is necessary.

806-002-1s-kitThe 1s is a single stage system that consists of an ERL high-pressure electro-magnetic water pump, adjustable pressure switch, plus all the necessary hardware to form the basis of a starter kit.
SYSTEM 1s
This starter kit will enable you to enter the exciting world of water injection: a high-power magnetic piston pump and a specially-designed atomizing jet form the basis of this rugged system 1. The water-pump is activated when an adjustable pressure switch, fitted to the inlet manifold, reaches its preset point: delivery rate can be altered by changing water-jet sizes.

Thread size of the jet is M8x0.75mm: this is not supplied with the kit but can be made available on a loan-and-return basis if necessary.

HARDWARE
All fasteners are made with high quality 316(A4) grade stainless steel: lower grade stainless steel does suffer from corrosion and pitting under the harsh environments of the engine bay hose.
The hose is made of nylon, whose natural strength can sustain pressure of over 12bar at 80°C. Lowest operating temperature is -40°C @26bars. The color supplied with the kit is semi-translucent white, but red, yellow, green, blue and black are available on request.

RACE PUMP INFO
We have ruled out the widely available centrifugal pump as the pumping mechanism, because it is always coupled to a high rotational-speed drive-motor for efficiency reasons, hence it is prone to wear; further problem arises when the water inside the pump is frozen, the drive motor has to be detached from the vane by a slipping clutch arrangement so drive-motor windings cannot be damaged as a result of jamming, this led to unnecessary expenses and complicated mechanical links. In addition, high speed drive motor tends to suffer from burn-out under prolonged continuous running.
The ERL electro-magnetic pump
In order to find a pump that will reliably perform under the harsh environment of the engine bay, we have no alternatives but to design our own. The ERL electro-magnetic pump is the result of a two-year intense mechanical and electronic research and development program. A high pressure pump with NO mechanical links, thus eliminated damages caused by jamming. The special magnetic stainless armature is set in motion by strong magnetic field induced by a powerful solenoid. Water is then delivered without being in contact with the drive-motor, pressure and delivery rate is regulated by internal high-tech electronic circuitry.
How does it work?
As seen form the diagram above, the construction of the center of the pump is very similar to a bicycle pump, two valves: priming- and output- valve works the same way as a bicycle pump. The similarity ends when the manual pump actions is replaced by electro-magnetic fields and speed is also cranked up to about 50 strokes a second! Water is being filled and retained between the two valves during the induction stroke (armature is pulled against the spring), water is then pushed out by the action of compressed spring and the armature when the electric-field is shut-off, high pressure is the product of spring force and the cross-section area of the armature tip. Peak pressure can go as high as 250psi!, perfectly suited the atomizing jets requirement. Electrical and Mechanical specifications Condition
